About Homeward Houndz

Born from love. Built with purpose.

Discover the family, experiences and dogs that inspired Mandi to create a rescue centred on understanding and the right lifelong match.

Where it began

A love of animals became a lasting purpose.

Homeward Houndz was founded on 17th March 2025 by Mandi, an animal lover from Birmingham whose passion for dogs and desire to make a difference led her to create her own rescue.

Mandi’s love of animals has always been a huge part of who she is — something she credits to her mum and nan, who were both devoted animal lovers themselves. Within the space of just two years, Mandi sadly lost both of them: two of the strongest and most important people in her life.

Her nan was Irish, and St Patrick’s Day was one of their favourite days of the year. Choosing 17th March as the date to launch Homeward Houndz felt like a special way of carrying a little piece of both of them with her into something she cared about so deeply.

Their love of animals lives on in every second chance.

Behind the rescue

Meet Mandi.

Founder of Homeward Houndz, Mandi transformed personal loss and a lifelong love of animals into a rescue built around compassion, understanding and truly suitable homes.

Rosie and Hugo

Two dogs helped shape the beginning.

Mandi’s journey into rescue began when, following her mum’s passing, her mum’s one-year-old Micro Bully, Rosie, came into her care. Trying to find the right support and a suitable home for Rosie opened Mandi’s eyes to the challenges within dog rescue and sparked a passion to make a difference.

After volunteering and gaining valuable experience, Mandi knew she wanted to create a rescue where every dog was treated as an individual.

Her experience with Hugo, a gentle Neapolitan Mastiff who had been abandoned and was just hours away from being put to sleep, strengthened that belief. Hugo was eventually adopted by Pia, and his story became one of the experiences that helped inspire Mandi to create Homeward Houndz.

Our mission

To give every dog the chance of a safe, loving and truly suitable forever home.

A thoughtful approach

Rescue is about more than finding a home.

It is about understanding each dog’s history, personality and needs, finding the right family and supporting both the dog and adopter throughout their journey.

Every dog is treated as an individual. That understanding guides each decision and gives every match the strongest possible chance to last.

The team

A small team making time to make a difference.

Today, Mandi’s passion has grown into a small team of dedicated volunteers who, alongside their own full-time jobs and busy lives, give their spare time to help dogs and give something back to the community.

At the heart of Homeward Houndz is Mandi’s original vision.

Every dog deserves the chance of a home where they are safe, loved and truly understood.
