Ask the teamHow do I apply to adopt a dog?+
Start by reading the available dog profiles and the adoption guidance. When a dog appears to suit your home and lifestyle, use the Apply To Adopt button on their profile to complete the adoption questionnaire.
Can I apply if I live outside the local area?+
Yes. Homeward Houndz supports responsible matches across the UK and will discuss travel, home checks and relocation arrangements with suitable applicants.
How do I ask for help rehoming my dog?+
Use the rehoming enquiry form and share honest information about your dog’s health, behaviour and current circumstances. The team will explain availability and the next appropriate step.
What happens after I send an adoption enquiry?+
The team reviews your household, experience and routine against the individual dog’s needs. Shortlisted applicants may then have a conversation, home check and carefully managed introductions.
Can I foster a dog?+
Foster homes are an important part of rescue. The team will discuss your household, availability, experience and the type of dog you could safely support.
Can I help with transport?+
Volunteer drivers help dogs travel safely between owners, foster homes, vets and adopters. Use the transport enquiry option to tell the team where you are based and when you may be available.
Are the dogs assessed before adoption?+
The rescue gathers as much reliable health and behaviour information as possible, then uses that knowledge to make careful, honest matches. Details vary for each dog and will be discussed with serious applicants. A member of the HH team will assess every dog, before and whilst transporting. We will settle the dog with you and leave when everyone is happy .

You can donate through our Donate page, or enquire about fostering, transport, fundraising and other practical help.
What are the adoption fees?+
Fees 2026 0-11 months £500 1-5 year old £400 5 years plus £300
What are the adoption fees used for?+
Fees are used to support emergency cases where a dug needs urgent help. This could be vet treatment, medication, new lead, bedding, food, transport to a safe place and many more things. Without the donations we simply cannot help any dogs
What does the adoption fee include?+
The adoption fee includes: * Transport of the dog to their new home * Up-to-date flea and worm treatment * Transfer of the dog's microchip into dual ownership with Homeward Houndz Vaccinations are arranged where appropriate, although not every dog will necessarily have been vaccinated before adoption. Neutering is considered **on a case-by-case basis**. Where appropriate, a neutering contract may form part of the adoption agreement.
How long do we get support post adoption?+
We provide lifetime support to all of our rescue dogs. We will aim to do this by video call, text, voice note, but will also travel if required.
Can I meet the dog before adopting?+
Where possible, we can arrange a meet and greet before adoption. This is dependent on the dog's location, and adopters will need to **travel to where the dog is currently based** for the meeting. We feel this is an important opportunity for everyone to meet and get to know one another before making the final decision.
Can I adopt if I work full-time?+
Yes.Working full-time does not automatically prevent you from adopting from Homeward Houndz. However, once your dog has settled into their new home and built trust with you and your family, we would expect the **maximum period they are left alone to be no more than four hours**. If you work full-time, you would therefore need suitable arrangements in place, such as a **dog walker, family member or trusted friend** who can visit your dog during the day. The settling-in period is particularly important, and some dogs may need considerably more company and support initially. We will always consider the individual dog's needs when deciding whether an adoption is suitable.
Can I adopt if I have children?+
Yes. This will depend on the individual dog. Some of our dogs may be perfectly comfortable living with children, while others may need an adult-only home or children of a particular age. We will always be honest about what we know about a dog's temperament and needs and will consider your individual family circumstances when making a match.
Can you adopt if you have other pets?+
Yes you certainly can. Every dog and household is different, so we assess this on an individual basis. We will consider the temperament and needs of the rescue dog alongside your existing pets to make sure the situation is suitable and safe for everyone.
Can I adopt if I rent my property?+
This will depend on your individual circumstances and the requirements of the dog. If you rent your home, you must have permission to keep a dog from your landlord or housing provider.
Do I need previous experience owning a dog to adopt?+
Not necessarily. Some of our dogs may be suitable for first-time dog owners, while others may need someone with previous experience or a particular understanding of their needs. We look at the **individual dog and the individual adopter** when making a match.
Are all dogs vaccinated?+
Vaccinations are arranged where appropriate, but **not every dog will necessarily have received vaccinations before adoption**. We will provide you with the information we have regarding each dog's vaccination status so you know what has been done and what may still be required.
Do I get a refund of the adoption fee if I change my mind?+
No, all adoption fees are non refundable. We are fully transparent about the dogs to the best of our knowledge, and assessed as well as we can to ensure no bite risk or aggression is seen. We will fully support you to try and work through all issues you may face in the early days
